Then, departure for a panoramic tour of the historical cities of Delhi.

In Old Delhi, you’ll see the Red Fort, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, followed by the Jama Masjid Mosque.  Going around its enclosing wall, you’ll see the Lahore Gate, the site where 50 years ago, Pandit Nehru proclaimed India’s Independence.

Then, stop at Raj Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial – a simple black marble platform marking the site of his cremation on 31st January 1948, with an eternal flame burning at one end. Raj Ghat is located on the banks of the Yamuna River.

Next, a tour of New Delhi, the former British capital, and neighborhoods designed by Lutyens:

  • Connaught Place, the business and tourist district
  • India Gate, a 42-meter-high triumphal arch
  • Parliament, with its three wings designed by British architects
  • Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Presidential Palace, once the residence of the last English Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten

Visit the Humayun’s Tomb, built in the mid-16th century by Haji Begum, wife of the 2nd Mughal emperor. This UNESCO-listed site is a beautiful example of early Mughal architecture, featuring arched entrances, a bulbous dome, and a garden that would inspire the Taj Mahal.

Finally, discover the Qutub Minar, one of the earliest Afghan-era monuments, adorned with Quranic verses. Nearby stands the Iron Pillar (7.5 meters high), inscribed in Sanskrit and still rust-free despite centuries of exposure—a mystery to this day.

Departure to the Shekhawati region, famous for its painted Havelis—traditional Rajasthani mansions decorated with frescoes depicting epic Hindu stories and key historical events.

Morning departure through the Thar Desert to Bikaner, a former princely capital from the 15th century.
Set on a small plateau and surrounded by crenelated walls, Bikaner is also the birthplace of the famous Camel Corps, crucial in desert warfare.

Afternoon visit to the Junagarh Fort, built between 1588–1593 by Raja Rai Singh, a general in Emperor Akbar’s army. The fort has a 968-meter-long wall with 37 bastions and two gates, including the main Suraj Pol (Sun Gate). Inside are palaces, courtyards, balconies, towers, and pavilions.

Also visit the Ganga Jubilee Museum, with terracotta art, coins, weapons, Bikaner paintings, and ancient artifacts from Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro.

Then visit the National Camel Research Centre, founded in 1975 to study camels’ physiology, breeding, and socio-economic impact.

Depart through the desert towards Jaisalmer, the ancient caravan city.
A strange and beautiful yellow sandstone city, once forgotten at the edge of the desert, it still preserves many signs of its past glory.

Morning walking tour through narrow lanes to admire Havelis, opulent mansions built by wealthy Marwari merchants in the 18th century. Admire:

  • Patwon-ki-Haveli (five connected houses),
  • Nathmal-ki-Haveli (guarded by elephants),
  • Salim Singh Haveli, famous for its exceptional stone filigree work.

Visit the 12th-century fortress, encircled by double walls from the 15th and 16th centuries, housing the Maharaja’s Palace and Jain temples, richly carved in white marble with colorful sculptures and mirror inlays.

Afternoon visit to the Folk Art Museum.

Camel ride in the sand dunes.

Excursion to Bara Bagh (royal cenotaphs) and the Gadi Sagar Lake.

Return to the hotel.

Depart for Jodhpur, the Blue City of Rajasthan, once a vital caravan stop on the edge of the Thar Desert.
The old city is surrounded by a 10 km wall with 7 gates, built in the mid-16th century.

Afternoon visit to Mehrangarh Fort, built in 1459 by Rao Jodha, former residence of the Maharajahs of Marwar. The fort overlooks the entire city and houses palaces, a museum, and a Hindu temple.

Visit Jaswant Thada, a marble cenotaph memorial of the royal family.

Stroll through the colorful city bazaars.

Drive through the Aravalli Hills to Sardargarh, a former princely state.

Stop at Ranakpur to see the magnificent Jain temples, hidden in a secluded valley and untouched by invaders. Marvel at 29 halls supported by 200 individually carved pillars. The central sanctuary has 20 domes of various sizes. A masterpiece of marble craftsmanship.

Continue to Sardargarh.

Drive to Udaipur, the white city and former royal capital of Mewar.
Considered India’s most romantic city, it is set in an enchanting landscape.

Visit Jagdish Temple, dedicated to Vishnu, one of Hinduism’s trinity along with Brahma and Shiva.

Drive through rural landscapes to Jaipur, the Pink City and capital of Rajasthan.

Drive to Agra, the Mughal capital on the banks of the Yamuna.

Stop en route at Fatehpur Sikri, a once-glorious and now abandoned imperial capital built by Emperor Akbar. It was once larger than London and home to royal residences and a grand mosque.

Next, visit the Red Fort, the former Mughal imperial residence. Built by Akbar and enhanced by Shah Jahan, its red sandstone walls stretch for 2.5 km. Inside are palaces, the Pearl Mosque, audience halls, and Khas Mahal, adorned with painted domes and copper roofs.
